| Brandon teachers raise funds for research |
 Teachers at Rouse Elementary School in Brandon had a surprise for their colleague Kaye Sowell. Just after school started, Rankin County Sheriff's deputy Wes Shivers arrived at the school to "arrest" Sowell as a prank.
Sowell was walked out of the school by Shivers and was placed in the patrol car where she was soon met by fellow teachers holding "Free Sowell" signs and cheering for her release. Teachers at the school were instructed to pay up, or watch their colleague go to big house; and they quickly responded with more than $350 in donations, which will be given to the Leonard E. Warren Melanoma Foundation to help find a cure for skin cancer. |
